What made you pursue OT, and where do you see yourself going:  I knew I was gearing towards something healthcare related for a number of years, but I wasn’t exactly sure what. I considered nursing for many years, and realized that I wanted an opportunity to build more long-term relationships with clients. I also entertained the idea of something more artsy/creative for quite a long time. In my final year of my undergrad, I realized OT was it — creativity and client empowerment! I’m very intrigued by the broad scope of OT, and the diversity of fields to pursue. I’m curious about possibilities of incorporating outdoor therapy into OT, and generally interested in working in pediatrics otherwise!

What you enjoy most about the program: The people! OT draws such a spread of awesome motivated (and FUN!) people together, and it makes for an unbelievable support network. The faculty are also accessible and willing to help however they can 🙂

Fun piece of information about yourself: I once shared a hot dog with Michael Bublé.

One piece of advice to first year students: Recognize your right to be here and try not to compare yourself to others. OT is such a diverse profession, and they chose you for a very specific reason. Your classmates are your colleagues now, and everyone is here to support each other. So don’t stress too hard about getting the best grade… that’s not the point anymore. In the end, everyone is uniquely valuable to the profession, so focus on what YOU bring 🙂
